Horizon Drilling is hiring a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team in our Calgary location!
Western Energy Services Corp. (Corporate) is an oilfield service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States. In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Internal Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for compiling, analyzing and preparing various financial and operational reports that are used to make decisions in the business. It is a position that liaises frequently with operations, marketing and other employees of the Horizon Finance group as well as assists with communication with the WESC corporate personnel. This role also ensures monthly, quarterly and annual compliance activities related to operations and the company are completed in a timely manner. The person in this role demonstrates a proactive approach and initiative when handling reporting and analytical activities to ensure that all tasks are handled efficiently, professionally and in a timely manner.
The Senior Financial Analyst is energetic, polished, professional and independent, with excellent interpersonal skills. This person must be highly organized, with excellent time management skills and strong attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Prepare budget and forecast models and reports
- Compile monthly financial package for distribution to executives
- Prepare analytical information on business activities including, cost center and rig profitability analysis, trend analysis, gross margin analysis, ROI analysis on projects and capital purchases, statistical analysis and reasonableness of revenue and expenses
- Prepare financial information and reports to analyze the business
- Conduct P&L Review and assist in detailed variance analysis
- Maintain, evaluate and improve the bid tool used by marketing for customer quotes
- Assist in the financial analysis for marketing in bid projects and RFPs
- Prepare monthly reports for operations including field financials and HSE reports
- Understand the various provincial and federal tax requirements and prepare calculations and submissions including PST and GST to ensure the company remains compliant
- Compile information to prepare submissions for fuel tax tracking and reporting
- Assist with periodic fixed asset counts
- Assist in the preparation of weekly revenue report
- Prepare weekly exception reports
- Liaise with external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual compliance audits
- Conduct Balance Sheet and P&L Review
- Coordinate the preparation of capital and operating annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Liaise with marketing personnel regarding monthly financial performance and routine analysis
- Work closely with the finance team to identify and implement process and system efficiencies
- Perform other duties as required
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Recent completion, or working towards completion, of a recognized accounting program (CPA)
- 4 – 6 years of relevant experience
- Direct experience completing financial analysis and financial reporting
- Solid MS Office skills, including advanced skills in Excel
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP
- Working knowledge of Management Reporter would be considered an asset
- Experience in the oilfield services industry would be considered an asset
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly when dealing with operational and marketing personnel
- Strong time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential
