Title: Motor Hand

 

Reports to: Driller

 

General Summary of Position: The Motorhand position is deemed to be a “Safety Sensitive” position due to the proximity of heavy industrial machinery. A Motorhand provides manual labor as required to operate and maintain the rigs diesel and electric engines.

 

The Motorhand orders tools and replacement parts for these engines and is responsible for testing the machinery for operability and safety and is required to clean and maintain engines at all times. They also operate and maintain the boiler systems. Motorhands are responsible for the training, supervising and assisting of the other crew members as required. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Regularly maintain drilling rig engines, transmissions, heating systems, diesel electric generators and motors, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment.
  • Monitor inventories for fuel, oil filters, lube oils, greases and other service items.
  • Maintain equipment logs and preventative maintenance records as required.
  • Operate and maintain the engines that run the draw works, turn rotary table and circulate drilling fluid.
  • Ensure usage of proper safety equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions, comply with company guidelines and work in a safe manner.

  • Strong communication skills and good organizational skills.
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.

 

Experience:

 

  • Previous hands-on experience in all position up to and including Motorhand.

 

Certifications and Licenses:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid H2S Alive Certification.
  • Valid CSO Certification.
  • Confined space entry and rescue certification.
  • Fall Protection and Rig Recue for rig work.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to and from site.

Safety and Physical Demands:

 

Working on a drilling rig comes with many physical demands and a commitment to a safe work environment.  A rig worker is exposed to all weather conditions, long hours and rigorous physically demands.   Horizon Drilling is committed to ensure rig workers meet these physical demands by having each employee successfully complete a substance screening and strength and mobility test prior to them being hired.   Rig workers should be able to successfully lift 50 lbs., work 12 hours shift in extreme weather conditions and are able to work in a team environment.  Horizon Drilling is dedicated to a continuous improvement of safety.
